Popular West End restaurant closes

Popular Aberdeen West End restaurant, the Olive Tree and its associated bistro, The Black Olive, have both closed.

The Queen’s Road restaurants took over the historic toll house on the Alford turnpike that, for years, had been a small grocer’s and delicatessen. The Olive Branch, the convenience store behind the restaurant is not affected by the closure.

The Olive Tree proved popular over the years, but latterly faced even stronger competition locally with the opening of the Malmaison Hotel, just a couple of hundred yards from its front door.

Reports in the Press and Journal and Evening Express suggest that an offer is expected for the premises that could see a change of use. Rumours are that it will become a beauty salon.
